KARACHI: Pakistani star Mahira Khan bashed a Twitter troll who claimed that actors promoting vulgarity was why “rapes are on the rise”, especially in light of the Farishta rape and murder case, for which she had tweeted about earlier as well.

In a tweet on Thursday, Mahira said: “It’s the mindset! It’s the shame associated with it.

Really? The ‘vulgarity’ causes someone to go rape a 10 year oldand then kill her? Get a grip. It’s the mindset! It’s the shame associated with it. And no I will not back off. My voice. My life. I will do whatever I want with it.

Zarwan Ali, the man tweeting to Mahira, had alleged “people of showbiz need to stop using rape cases to promote their agenda,” tagging Shehzad Roy and Zeba Bakhtiyar and using the hashtag #JusticeForFarishta, and told actors to “back off” from such cases.

Prior to this, on Thursday, Mahira had tweeted about Farishta, the 10-year-old girl whose body was discovered from a forest in Islamabad three days ago and later shifted to the Poly Clinic for post-mortem.

Late Farishta’s family, which belongs to Mohmand Agency, said they had tried to file a missing person report with the police on May 15 but it took police until May 19 to register a first information report (FIR) and, even then, a proper search was not initiated.

FIR registered against policemen for negligence in Farishta’s case

The FIR finally registered by Farishta’s father, Ghulam Nabi, stated that the family visited the police station for the registration of a missing complaint. However, the SHO, instead of looking for the girl, alleged that she had run away with someone.

Instead of registering the FIR, police officials had the police station cleaned, the FIR states.

Locals, who later discovered the minor girl’s body, subsequently informed the police.

An FIR was lodged against the station house officer (SHO) for Shahzad Town and other police officers for negligence in the case, and calls for action against officials involved for criminal negligence.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a close relative of Farishta but did not provide further details. They say that the scope of the investigation has been widened.
